WIRELESS FAQ

Most people will be able to walk into the wireless transmitter area and just get internet access on the wireless network, however, the following frequently asked questions should cover most of the details.

What wireless standard is supported at Treeland Resorts? We support the 802.11b standard for wireless. It is the widest used standard available and is readily used by many commercial setups.

What requirements are there for accessing the Treeland Resorts Wireless Network?
You must have receiving equipment compatible with the 802.11b wireless standard.
You must have your TCP/IP properties set to obtain the IP & DNS information automatically.
We do not use WEP (wireline equivalent privacy) security on our public network.
Your radio should scan for the channel to connect to (we transmit on channel 6).
Wireess works best with Windows XP operating system.
You need to be in range of the transmitter. If you don't have a network connection established with our transmitter, you won't get to the internet.

What security is in place for my internet activities?
The wireless network at Treeland Resorts is behind a firewall for your protection. However, we cannot guarantee that your computer is safe from viruses, Trojans, worms, or other forms of malicious internet activity, therefore, use of the wireless network is at your own risk and we will accept no responsibility for any damage to you that may result from your use.

We do not require a userid and password to access our wireless network and it is therefore very public. You should take steps to protect your computer asset when more than one person is on the network at one time.

We highly recommend the use of a software firewall like Zone Alarm Pro for protection.
